James Chris Shukas was born on December 10, 1948. He was drafted into the United States Army and was sent to Southeast Asia on August 24, 1969.  He was in the the 25th Infantry Division, 22nd Infantry, 2nd Battalion, A Company.  He was Specialist Four, with an MOS of 11B20, Team Leader in a Light Infantry Company.

He was stationed in Military Region 3, Hua Nghia, west of Saigon on the Vietnamese-Cambodian border.

He died on April 12, 1970, during operations leading up to Operation Toan Thang 41, in Angel’s Wing, Svay Rieng Province, Cambodia.
