Positive
Experiences with Next Generation
Quotes
from Mentors
- When asked if they would
be involved in Project Next Generation next year, two
students said they would love to come and "be the teachers".
This demonstrated their comfort level with the library
and their newfound self-confidence. We will invite them
to come back next year and help out with our NG group.
- We overhear our students
bragging about what they do at the library and saying
"it's cool". Students have promoted the project and
encouraged others to get involved.
- The students work together
and hang out with each other when they aren't at NG.
They've really learned to get along!
- One of our students is
really creative and motivated. While the other students
were complaining about the project they were working
on, she broke away from the group and finished the project
on her own.
- One student was very timid
and not involved with the group at the beginning. By
the end of the semester, she had mastered making T-shirts,
loved the AlphaSmarts and was begging to be allowed
to return next year.
- One of the participants
in the second session had fallen behind in his reading
level. At our final celebration, his parents told me
how improved his grades were during the last quarter
-not only in reading, but in math as well. It seems
that all the reading he did on the Internet paid off.
His parents were thrilled and want to enroll him in
any future young adult programs we have at the library.
