Description |
Interior view of National Bank at 201 S. Vine Street, established February 1890 by James Morris, Fred Matters, Asa Warren and Sol Dorman. First located at 131 S. Vine. Converted to National Bank November 1899. Moved to 201 S. Vine later, probably in 1898 or 1899. This business failed in 1933 when they failed to open after the "Bank Holiday". A bank robbery in the night in January 1899 netted six robbers $3,700.00. They made their escape to Arcola on a railroad handcar. They apparently split up with three each hitching a ride South and North on railroad freight train. |
